with this dropdown menu the font for the teletext can be selected

Here the used colors can be changes. Select a color in the list and define a new one with the controls on the right. Set applies the changed color to the list.
Restore Colors restores all color to the default settings.
[edit] Automatic character set selection if possible
If "Automatic character set" is turned on, the DVBViewer tries first to resolve the ambiguity itself - either with additional teletext Level 2.5/3.5- informations, or if they don't exist, with the language of the teletext descriptor in the PMT. Only if this leads to nothing, it uses the user preferences. If Automatic charater set is turned off, the ambiguity is resolved by simply using the user preferences.

The technical background: Every teletext page contains 3 national option bits that generally specify the character set, but unfortunately they are ambiguous:
0 ENG POL SER
1 DEU
2 SWE EST
3 ITA LIT
4 FRA RUS
5 SPA CRO UKR HEB
6 CZE TUR
7 GRE ROM ARA
That is why a prioritized language has to be set for each group.
